Tanner will run the full NHRA Mello YelloDrag Racing Series schedule; Tanner's grandfather is now-retired NHRA driver Johnny Gray, a seven-time winner in Funny Car.

Tanner, at the age of 17 years old, won his first NHRA Pro Stock national event on April 2, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  This accomplishment made Tanner the youngest driver ever to win a NHRA professional event.

About the cars

2017 Car: Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro

SHANE GRAY finished third in NHRA’s Division 4 Competition Eliminator standings in 2009. The following year, he dove headfirst into NHRA Pro Stock competition. In his debut season, Gray qualified for all 23 events on the tour and ended the year with a win at the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona.

Gray’s remarkable first year as a professional drag racer was even more notable as the power was generated in-house, and the engines beneath the hood of his sleek Jerry Haas-built Chevy Camaro are still brought to life in the Gray Motorsports facility in Denver, N.C. Gray, now in his eighth season as a Pro Stock competitor, has accumulated six national event wins; Pomona Finals 2010, Topeka in 2011, Las Vegas Nationals in 2013, the prestigious Chevrolet US Nationals in Indianapolis in 2014, Las Vegas in 2016, and the Gatornationals in 2017.
